Missouri's Attorney General Catherine Hanaway is cracking down on 33 businesses, including several in the Kansas City region, accused of selling intoxicating cannabis or marijuana products outside of the state's legal framework. The businesses are accused of offering products that violate state consumer protection laws, including items marketed as cannabis that are not regulated under Missouri’s constitutional guidelines. The action falls under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act and includes a ban on smoking marijuana in public places. Hanaway's office has also sent cease-and-desist letters to 33 businesses accused of violating public nuisance laws. Tests found some of the products contained potentially harmful substances, including lead, arsenic, solvents, pesticides or unknown byproducts and mercury.
