Miss Manners: I’m tired of hearing thrifters brag about how much they save

Miss Manners has become tired of hearing thrifters brag about their savings by shopping at discount stores, buying off-brand items and buying all of their clothing, including shoes, at secondhand and thrift stores. The writer, who is not wealthy but a professional who works hard, does not ever brag or tell anyone what I pay for anything. However, when friends repeatedly repeat their savings, they seem like they want me to agree. Miss Manners suggests that it is just as rude to constantly brag as it is to brag of spending more money. She also warns against giving a surprise party, which may be more pleasant for the hosts and guests than for the person being honored.
