Sandbar, a startup founded by former Meta employees Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong, has secured $23 million in a Series A funding round led by Adjacent and Kindred Ventures. The company's smart ring, the Stream ring, is designed for note-taking and is not health-tracking like Oura's products. The ring has a microphone that can be activated using a touch-sensitive panel at the top, which can record notes and chat with an AI assistant on the accompanying phone app. Sandbar plans to start shipping the smart ring this summer and is working on refining its app experience and improving its user interface to reduce model responses and enable agentic workflows for users to take action using their notes. The startup has 15 employees and plans to double its software and machine learning teams, and hire marketing staff.
