A new research report by Goldman Sachs suggests that AI-driven job losses could leave a lasting impact on workers, including depressed income, delayed homeownership, and a lower probability of marriage. The findings were made by economists Pierfrancesco Mei and Jessica Rindels, who identified occupations in the past and tracked worker outcomes using data from the National Longitudinal Surveys. They also found that job losses during a recession significantly impact the economy. However, they noted that younger workers who switched jobs or upgraded their skills had better outcomes.
