Late night Senate vote puts DHS shutdown one step closer to largely ending

The US Senate voted to reopen all of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), except a handful of immigration enforcement agencies. The vote puts Congress one step closer to ending the 42-day shutdown that has resulted in widespread airport disruptions and missed paychecks for hundreds of thousands of workers. The bill passed unanimously, meaning no Republicans or Democrats objected. It will now be debated by the House following similar steps taken by Senate Minority Leader John Thune.
