N.J. heads to court to block construction of an ICE immigration detention facility

New Jersey and Roxbury Township are seeking a preliminary injunction from the U.S. District Court of New Jersey to prevent the conversion of a warehouse into a Immigration and Customs Enforcement immigration detention facility. The motion cites a recent federal court ruling stating that the conversion is likely unlawful. New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport stated that the Department of Homeland Security cannot transform local neighborhoods into detention outposts without considering the impacts on local resources and consulting with state and local governments. The move was welcomed by opponents who believe Kean should have done more to oppose the Roxbury facility.
