Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, has acquired Bitnomial for up to $550 million. The acquisition gives Payward control of Bitnomia's futures broker, exchange and clearinghouse licenses, allowing it to offer regulated crypto derivatives in the US without relying on third-party venues. This follows Payward's $1.5 billion acquisition of retail futures platform NinjaTrader in 2025. The transaction also provides Payward with a business-to-exist path where banks, fintech firms, and brokerages can connect to regulated U.S. derivatives products through Payward Services.
