Apple has reportedly awarded rare bonuses to iPhone hardware designers in an effort to deter employees from leaving for high-paying startups like OpenAI. The bonuses are "out-of-cycle" meaning they are separate from Apple's typical scheduled bonuses and are reportedly worth around $200,000 to $400,000 over the full vesting period. The company's employees believe these bonuses are a response to a recent increase in startup recruiting. This is not the first time the company has given out such bonuses; in 2003, similar packages were given during poaching concerns.
