Chris Hetterly, a former Locust Cider co-owner and business partner, is set to open Bagel's Bagels later this year in a former location of Katsu Burger. The new shop will offer NY-style bagels, sandwiches, and will be part of the growing bagel scene in Tacoma, which was largely a bagel-free zone before the advent of the city's bagel shops like Howdy Bagel & Butters and B’s Bagels in Gig Harbor. The Bagel in the shop's name is a name of Hetterley's younger daughter's cat. The business partner was raised in New York and Hetterlys, who both grew up in the tri-state area. They plan to recreate the same recipe for the bagel, describing their recipe as "definitely a New York-inspired bagel."
