The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a warning about increased fire danger across central North Carolina, citing dry weather and high temperatures as reasons for the warning. The North Carolina State Climate Office has labelled "extreme" fire danger for the Triad east to Chatham, Orange and western Durham counties, with Wake County east to Rocky Mount and Fayetteville under a "very high" danger. The drought monitor indicates that central N Carolina is in "severe drought," with parts of Edgecombe, Nash and Halifax counties in an even more severe "extreme drought". The message to citizens is to avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve, avoid taxing already-stretched fire crews, and monitor flammable materials in and around homes and cars.
