Trump's homeland security pick Mullin faces senators' questions

Senator Markwayne Mullin, chosen by US President Donald Trump to lead the Department of Homeland Security, will testify before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. If the committee approves his confirmation, the full Senate will vote later this month. Mullin will replace DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who was sacked after criticism over her handling of immigration operations in Minnesota. He would take over from Noem as the agency struggles to address a funding impasse, which is due to Democratic demands for reforms to federal agents' handling of Trump's mass deportation policy. Despite being a first-time senator, Mullin has publicly supported President Trump's policies and expressed his intention to carry out his mission.
