California has released a convicted double murder offender, Darryl Lamar Collins, who was released on parole less than a year into his second murder. The mother of six, Fatima Johnson, was found strangled to death with her hands tied and her body wrapped in a blanket. Collins was convicted of murdering two people in 1998 and given a 50-year prison sentence. California's youthful offender laws allowed Collins to leave early due to age 26, and once you serve 25 years, you're eligible for parole. While some states would make Collins pay for his crimes with the death penalty, California's legal system is backwards.
