Michael Simes, an attorney from New York City, has pleaded guilty to three counts of failure to file a tax return and has agreed to pay restitution for the outstanding balance of $2,871,676. This resulted in a tax loss of $1,876,307 on gross income exceeding $5.6 million for the 2013 and 2016 tax years. Simes also filed tax returns for 2012, 2014, and 2015 but paid only a fraction of the taxes reported as due, resulting in significant penalties and interest. The case is currently being prosecuted by the Internal Revenue Service, which conducted this investigation.
