The federal government is in a 41-day partial shutdown, causing travel disruptions, missed paychecks, and airport closures. TSA officers are feeling betrayed by members of both political parties and are urging Congress to resolve the issue. The partial shutdown has been the third time DHS workers have been hit by a funding lapse since October. The financial strain is causing serious consequences across the country, with many TSA agents calling out and over 450 quitting their jobs. The acting TSA administrator, Ha Nguyen McNeill, testified at a House hearing that the situation was a "dire situation" and warned of potential airport closures if more employees refuse to come to work. A Republican proposal to fund the Transportation Security Administration and much of the Department of Homeland Security, except the enforcement and removal operations conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is expected to fail. However, Democrats argue that the GOP plan does not adequately protect federal officers engaged in President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement operations.
