Mathewijs van der Ham, an architect and woodworker, has lived in Minitopia, a tiny home village in the Netherlands for seven years. One of the main reasons for his stay is that the village feels safe for his 13-year-old son. Instead of complaining about noise, his neighbors turned his son's birthday party into a mini festival. Living in a tiny-home village has been liberating, with the freedom to plant trees along the street and create art from wood. Van der Ham enjoys the freedom of creating art and making improvements to his home. He has never been tempted to move, but acknowledges that living in the villages has impacted his career, lives, and finances.
