Vista Health Systems, the only hospital in Waukegan, is facing more than $2 million in unpaid property taxes and may lose the property where Vista Medical Center East, located at the northwest corner of Sheridan Road and Glen Flora Avenue, lies. Lake County Clerk Anthony Vega stated that Vista owes over $1.1 million in 2023 property taxes, as well as nearly $1 million for 2024 taxes. FNA DZ, a company that purchases delinquent property taxes as an investment, purchased the unpaid 2023 taxes, which remain unpaid. If FNA acquires the property for unpaid taxes, the county's tax lien is eliminated. A hearing is scheduled for July 10 to determine the future of the hospital property. Despite the financial difficulties, Waukgan Mayor Sam Cunningham remains committed to working with hospital leadership, elected officials and community partners to help the hospital remain viable.
