‘Leukemia picked the wrong cowgirl’: Meade County 5th grader battles cancer diagnosis

Emmalee Wilkins, a 5th grader from Meade County, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on February 11. She spent over a month at Norton Children’s Hospital before being able to return home for a few days. While in the hospital, Emmalee taught her students about white and red blood cells, platelets, plasma, and how chemotherapy is killing her cancer cells. The community has rallied behind her, holding fundraisers and opening a bank account at the local branch of Meade county Bank.
