Anne Arundel County schools are piloting a new AI weapons detection system, called Open Gates, in a pilot program that will run through summer. The system is the same one used in Harford County schools and will be tested over the next several months. The non-invasive system consists of two poles that people walk through to check for weapons in their bags or on their body. The pilot program will begin testing four units this week and move them to different schools or sporting events. The county welcomes parents' feedback on the system, stating it is a positive move as schools are often targeted for potential threats.
