A suspected norovirus outbreak aboard a Holland America cruise ship has sickened 76 people during a two-week voyage that ended in Hong Kong. The outbreak affected 65 passengers and 11 crew members on the ship, which was carrying approximately 2,000 passengers and 800 crew members when it departed from Yokohama, Japan on February 15. Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection began investigating after receiving notification February 27 that people were showing symptoms of acute gastroenteritis. Health officials conducted epidemiological investigations and set up a temporary medical station at the terminal for health assessments. The ship was cleared to depart for its next voyage after thorough cleaning and disinfection.
