The Minnesota Department of Human Services is revaluing thousands of Medicaid service providers in an effort to combat fraud and prevent the federal government from withholding critical funds. The state announced in February that it would be revalidating the 5,800 organizations enrolled in Medicaid-funded programs deemed at high risk of fraud. This move is part of a corrective action plan sent to federal officials to avoid a threatened freeze in Medicaid funding. However, providers have expressed concerns about the burden on the state and its ability to identify and root out fraud. The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services had threatened to withhold another $250 million in February, but approval was granted after a few hundred providers were revalued. Providers pay the state $750 per site to revalidate.
