The soft opening is designed to ensure safety while allowing limited recreational use. The full reopening is set for Memorial Day weekend. The most damaging storm in North Carolina history, Helene, caused $60 billion in damage, destroying or damaging over 185,000 homes and claiming the lives of 108 people.
