Rivian's factory in Normal, Illinois was hit by an EF-1 tornado over the weekend, causing significant damage and temporarily halting operations in Building 2, where the company produces the R2 SUV. The company has suspended operations in the building and plans to resume them later this week. The tornado hit a newer part of the factory, which is primarily used for R2 logistics such as deliveries of parts. No one was injured and the company is assessing the damage. The R2 is designed to help Rivian reduce its losses by selling between 20,000 and 25,000 units per year, making it one of the fastest launches of a new EV in the U.S. ever.
