A recent study by veterinarians has found that breeds with shortened muzzles may face higher risks of breathing difficulties and related health issues. The study found that a shortened skull structure can contribute to airway narrowing, increasing the likelihood of breathing obstruction and reduced airflow. These traits are commonly associated with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome. Symptoms include loud breathing, snorting, exercise intolerance, difficulty cooling down, collapse, sleep disruption, and chronic respiratory stress. The findings have prompted experts to encourage owners to recognize early warning signs and better understand these traits. Despite this, French bulldogs and pugs continue to be among the most popular dogs in the United States.
