In Cuba, patients and doctors are being hard-hit by power outages and fuel shortages. The Institute of Hematology and Immunology, a research facility where patients are referred to, has been out of many medications and has had to rely on friends and family in other countries to send them their medication. The hospital, which has more resources than others across the island, is one of the best on the communist-run island. Staff at the Institute have had to adapt their schedules and work hours to accommodate the constraints. The lack of access to medication and refrigeration is also a concern for patients. Despite this, no deaths have been reported due to these shortages.
