Raleigh Mayor calls new garage 'catalyst' for driverless cars

Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell has called for a new automated parking garage in downtown Raleigh, which will be part of the Gateway Corridor project, a catalyst for further discussions about driverless cars in the city. The city has approved the permitting for the 228-space automated parking deck, which Christopher Alan, CEO of AUTOParkit, previously stated that the technology for the kiosk-like system can accommodate all car types, including driverless vehicles. However, many of the city's major roads, being state-owned and maintained, would need to be involved in potential planning.
