Two senior Chinese officials, Zhang Youxia and Ma Xingrui, were absent from the opening of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPCC) which is one of the country's two largest political events of the year. The incidents have occurred amid a wave of purges aimed at the Communist Party. Both Zhang and Xingroui are currently under investigation.
