An investigative documentary about the murder of leftist Italian graduate student Giulio Regeni, who was tortured to death in Egypt in 2016, allegedly by Egypt's secret police. The film, "All the Evil in the World," has sparked outrage in Italy after being denied government funding by a commission appointed by the country's right-wing government. The doc, directed by Simone Manetti and produced by Italy’s Ganesh productions, reconstructs the ongoing quest for judicial truth about Regeni's murder. Three members of the government-appointed commission have resigned in protest. Italy's culture minister, Alessandro Giuli, rejected accusations of government interference or censorship, stating that he disagrees with the selection committee's decision to deny funding for the doc. The controversy has led to the re-release of the doc on 60 screens in Italy and a trial being held in Italy of four Egyptian national security agents without the defendants being present.
