England Continues Cultural Erasure By Pulling Winston Churchill From Currency

Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill will no longer be featured on English banknotes. Instead, the Bank of England will depict wild animals on the back of the next series of banknotes, a move that may be seen as removing a reminder of Britain's history as a largely white nation. The Bank ofEngland developed six criteria criteria for the theme, including that it should not involve imagery that could offend or exclude any groups. The most popular theme was nature, with 60% of respondents choosing it as one of their preferred themes. The bank's decision to remove historical figures from the currency leaves some of the country's population feeling excluded.
