Republican Jeannie LaCroix won a special election for a Prince William County Board of Supervisors seat in a major upset after her opponent, Muhammed Sufiyan Casim, was exposed for racist social media posts over a decade ago. The posts contained racist, misogynist, and antisemitic content. Casim apologized for the posts and suggested copying the behavior of "kids" of "brown ethnicity" at the time. La Croix won 43.7% of the vote and Casim received 37.0% in the Tuesday special election. The election was held to replace Democrat Margaret Franklin, who resigned from the Board after being elected to the Virginia House of Delegates.
