Qatar’s foreign minister says ‘regional countries are not an enemy of Iran’
Published on March 11, 2026.
Qatar's foreign minister, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi, has called for a de-escalation in hostilities across the Middle East and for a return to the negotiation table for a mediated solution. He also stated that Qatar and Oman cannot act as mediators while under attack. This follows Iran's response to a two-week bombardment by the United States and Israel, which has caused casualties, damage to critical infrastructure and disrupted the region's energy-driven economy. Al-Khulifi expressed concern over the wider range of attacks, including against civilian infrastructure. The conflict requires a global solution to ensure the Gulf's energy supply chain continues moving through the Strait of Hormuz, where global traffic has been severely disrupted by the conflict.
