La Jolla's Chase Bank branch is undergoing a remodeling, with a public art installation being covered with gray vinyl slats. The mural, “Art is Good for You” was painted by artist Michael Mercil in 2023 and was intended to remain for a few years. However, it has been covered up only when the slats were being placed over it. The bank, which is currently open to customers during the work, is being renovated in phases with completion expected in early fall. The property, owned by Chase Bank, was once considered for a complete teardown and construction of a mixed-use complex, but this work is independent of these plans.
