Foy Vance, a country singer, has released his seventh studio album, The Wake, after 27 years of processing profound grief through songwriting. The album was completed 26 years to the day after Vance's father, a traveling preacher, died. Vance resolved to write and record seven albums, each informed by his father's life and lessons he applied to his music. The 13-track album was produced by Ethan Johns and recorded at Three Crows Studio in Bath, England. The last song Vance wrote before recording The Wake was "Hi, I'm the Preacher's Son," reflecting on the values his father instilled upon him.
