Patrick Dempsey has returned to network TV with a darker role on Fox's Memory of a Killer, a psychological thriller series inspired by the book and 2003 Belgian film De zaak Alzheimer. His character, Angelo, is a contract killer who struggles to keep his double life a secret due to early onset Alzheimer's, the same disease Derek Shepherd spent years researching on Grey's Anatomy. Dempsey's decision to play this character was made within 24 hours of the Fox Upfronts announcement. The show is set to premiere on April 9. Dempsey also addressed the emotional cost of an Alzheimer's diagnosis, how long a show about a man struggling with this disease could potentially last, and how he has made peace with being known as "McDreamy" in the public consciousness.
