Emily Panuco, a 26-year-old mother and child were visiting the unincorporated community of Big River, California, to see a litter of puppies that her mother was keeping at her home. The puppies were attacked by three adult dogs, which Panuve was protecting her child when she intervened to prevent them from harm. The boy, who sustained two severe dog bites, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released. The adult dogs were later euthanised by Colorado River Indian Tribes Animal Control.
