Pakistani man, Asif Merchant, is accused of plotting to kill US politicians, specifically Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden. He claims that Iranian spies recruited him to carry out the plot to protect his family. Merchant, who is also accused of paying undercover FBI agents $5,000 to carry-out the murder scheme, named three potential targets: Trump, Biden, and Nikki Haley. His Iranian spy handler, Mehrdad Yousef, allegedly ordered him to complete the assassination plot and steal unidentified documents. He has pleaded not guilty to terrorism and murder-for-hire charges and faces life in prison if convicted.
