Current gold medal ice skater Alysa Liu quit skating at 16, surprising most people, including her dad, Arthur Liu, who was "mad" when she did not tell anyone in advance. Liu spent 12 hours a day at the rink and completed online homeschooling, living away from her family for two years to train in Delaware, Colorado and Italy. She also addressed rumors that her father used a radar gun to test speed of jumps. After taking time off in 2024, Liu returned to the sport when she was 19.
