David West, a Philadelphia-based digital pathology software company, has become CEO of Proscia, which aims to help pathology labs use technology to make testing more efficient and affordable. West, who studied in biomedical engineering at Johns Hopkins, initially fell in love with the pathology space while working at the intersection of machine learning and medicine. His interest in the field was personal due to his mother's cancer survivor, a cancer survivor. West co-founded the company while still an undergraduate and now serves as CEO. He credits his team with successfully integrating Proscoria's free product into academic use by institutions like Johns Hopkins and the University of Pennsylvania. The company aims to make diagnostics more cost effective for patients while allowing pathologists to go deeper on every case.
