Kentucky bills are making their way through Frankfort, which would roll back restrictions on where you can drink cannabis-infused drinks, while adding new taxes. The bills, HB9 and HB 9, would update how Kentucky regulates cannabis and taxes based on cannabis, cannabis‑infused beverages, hemp‑ products, and kratom. The legislation would allow for premise sales for cannabis-in-form drinks, reversing a law passed last year allowing them to be sold at pre-miseases. However, critics argue that a double tax on hemp-related products could drive people out of the state. The bill's sponsor, Jim Higdon, supports the bill, arguing that the THC BEVERAGES are being taxed at 1.6 cents per milligram at the wholesale level. The hemp industry has been critical of the proposed law, stating it could potentially remove most of their products from the shelves.
