Many veterans often overlook the importance of military benefits and estate planning, particularly in relation to the home they served to protect. If you bought a VA-backed loan, transferring a home into a Living Trust without triggering a "due-on-sale" clause, this allows your family to avoid probate. A common mistake is not updating a Will but forgetting the beneficiary forms on life insurance (VGLI) or a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), which overrides a Will. If an old beneficiary is still listed on your policy, they will likely receive the payout regardless of what your Will says.
