The Yuma County Attorney's Office has ruled a Wellton police officer who initiated a police-involved shooting in the early morning hours of Jan. 16. The incident occurred after officers responded to a stabbing and the suspect, a 37-year-old woman, allegedly approached the officer with a hatchet and refused to drop it. The officer then opened fire, killing the suspect. After reviewing the evidence, the office ruled the shooting justified.
