A jury has begun deliberations in the trial of former FirstEnergy executives, Chuck Jones and Michael Dowling, accused of bribing Sam Randazzo, the state utility regulator. The alleged bribery occurred shortly before Randazo became the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. The jury will review testimony taken over six weeks from 30 witnesses, including U.S. Sen. Jon Husted, and over 600 exhibits. Prosecutors claim that Jones and Dowling manipulated the state's utility regulator to influence all utilities' finances by bribing him. Jones' attorneys argue that the payment was a legitimate settlement in a 2015 case and they were legally required to pay it.
