In 2002, author Amy Drexler was inspired by a magazine article on AIDS in Africa, which showed that 17 million people had died and 12 million children were orphaned due to the disease. She recalls a trip to Mozambique where she learned about the suffering of a woman named Flora who was days away from dying, homeless, living under a tree and was welcomed by her family. Drexter believes that the church cannot solve the AIDS crisis by itself, not the government, medical professionals, and even the medical community. She argues that the cooperation of all sectors is necessary to bring about the end of HIV on earth. She also criticizes policies like "America First" that prioritize aid partnerships with recipient countries, rather than focusing on their own interests.
