Las Vegas weighs new arena plans as NBA expansion talk grows on Las Vegas Strip

Las Vegas is considering new sports venues as it prepares for potential NBA expansion team. The Athletics' new ballpark is expected to open within a year. The CEO of Starr Vegas Development Inc., Chuck Haifley, is proposing a $10 billion sports, entertainment and residential community on more than 63 acres along South Las Vegas Boulevard and Starr Avenue. Haifleys has $6 billion already committed and the land is in escrow. While there are no firm plans for a new arena, some believe the best opportunity is to the north. MGM Resorts' Dan Quinn believes Las Vegas may not need a new NBA arena, as T-Mobile Arena was designed to host a franchise.
