U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, D-6th Dist., has demanded an urgent investigation into toxic pollution at a former landfill in Keyport, New Jersey. This follows a report by NJ.com that revealed that 41 cancer cases, 28 of which were located near the former landfill, occurred near the site. Pallone has urged federal and state officials to take action against the pollution, noting that the property owners have not paid any fines and that the landfill has not been properly capped or remediated. The landfill has been cited over the last 50 years for multiple offenses, including improperly sealed off and for leaching at least five known carcinogens.
