A new Deseret News/Hinckley Institute of Politics poll has found a trend of falling confidence in government institutions in Utah, with just 28% of Utah voters expressing great or a fair amount of confidence in Congress compared to 28% for state ones. The largest share, making up 48%, said they did not have much confidence in federal lawmakers and 17% said they were not at all confident. The state Legislature, on the other hand, has the confidence of 46% of voters, with 44% expressing little to no confidence. The poll also found that Utah voters have more confidence in state courts, while Democrats had more confidence than Republican voters in colleges and universities. Recent events have led to a drop in confidence among voters on both sides of the aisle, particularly among younger ones.
