Hundreds of Muslim delivery drivers outside a mosque in the East Village have caused businesses and residents to close due to their constant presence. The drivers, mostly migrants from Islamic African nations, congregate outside the Islamic Council of America Madina Mosque five times a day for prayer, often with hundreds of electric bicycles piled on the curb. At least three businesses near the mosque have closed due to the issue. The chaos is particularly acute during Ramadan, when Ramadan ended on March 18. There have been at least 30 complaints to the city's 311 hotline since July for noise, dirty sidewalks and street conditions, and others about the horde of e-bikes. The Department of Sanitation has been criticized for not properly cleaning the area.
