City Chatter: Vacant structure causes concern

Council member Scott Benson has called for immediate action to fix up the vacant former Stevens T. Mason Elementary School, which neighbors say is dangerous and unsecured. The building, which is in "excellent condition," would cost $12.3 million to redevelop but there are no publicly known plans to do so. The issue is being resolved with city officials. Additionally, residents have complained about illegal drag racing in their neighborhoods at City Council, with deputy police chief Franklin Hayes stating there is no interest in it.
