Louisville health experts stress importance of Alcohol Awareness Month

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NIAAA) has designated April as Alcohol Awareness Month to update knowledge about alcohol use disorder and its adverse impact on health and society. The National Institutes of Health reported that each year there are over 178,000 alcohol-related deaths, making alcohol a leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Health experts have highlighted the importance of having a conversation with your physician about alcohol addiction, and sharing resources such as Zoom meetings, telephone meetings, and online chat rooms. The NIAAA also offers research-based resources related to alcohol misuse.
