United Flight Strikes Light Pole and Tractor-Trailer on New Jersey Turnpike During Landing

A United Airlines flight from Venice, Italy, struck a light pole and a tractor-trailer on the New Jersey Turnpike during a landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on May 3. The Boeing 767-400 was coming from Venice and was approaching the runway when it collided with a landing tire and the underside of the plane, causing minor damage to the tractor-Trailer and sending its driver to the hospital. Despite minor injuries, the aircraft landed safely with 221 passengers and 10 crew members on board and no injuries were reported. The incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
