Israeli forces have killed two top Iranian officials, National Security Chief Ali Larijani and Basij paramilitary commander Gholamreza Soleimani, in separate strikes. The deaths represent a significant blow to Tehran's leadership during the Iran war. The Israeli government has reported that its initial strikes on Feb. 28 killed seven senior defense and intelligence officials and targeted 30 top military and civilian leaders overall. In addition to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, his top security adviser, Ali Shamkhani, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Cmdr. Mohammad Pakpour, Chief of Staff of the armed forces; and Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh were also killed. Israeli forces also announced that Majid ibn al-Reza was killed in an airstrike, one day after he was appointed as Aziz's replacement as defense minister.
